As the Web Content Coordinator at SpiritLive Radio, I was responsible for updating the website with fresh content and making any necessary revisions, including creating new pages or making changes to existing ones.
Even though I was only tasked with managing content, I decided to modernize the site’s appearance, simplify user flows, and create a helpful resource for show programmers. This redesign successfully increased site traffic, improved navigation, and provided programmers with better guidance to manage their shows.
The existing website had several key issues that needed to be addressed.
The site’s visual style was old-fashioned, making it difficult to engage users and create a modern user experience.
Users struggled to find the information they needed quickly. Some of the links of the homepage led the users to dead links, and it wasn't clear that they were. The confusing layout led to frustration and longer search times.
Programmers lacked a centralized page with the necessary steps to run their show. This made it harder for them to confidently stream their show and created an extra workload for staff members who had to explain how to use the radio equipment.
Visitor numbers were quite low, indicating that the site was not compelling enough to attract new users or keep existing ones engaged. The lack of user-friendly features likely contributed to the low traffic.
To solve these problems, I focused on redesigning the site with a clear goal to make it more modern, easy to navigate, and supportive for programmers.
I updated the website with new design elements, including new fonts, colour schemes, and a cleaner layout to make the site more appealing and professional.
Key Design Changes:
By reorganizing the site’s content and navigation, I created a smoother experience for visitors, making it easier to find important information.
Key Design Changes:
I put together a new dedicated page to help show programmers with resources, FAQs, and step-by-step instructions for managing their shows. See the programmer's guide.
Throughout the redesign process, I gathered input from users and programmers to ensure the changes met their needs and expectations.
Here are the changes I made:
The redesign led to several measurable improvements:
After launching the new design, the website saw a 53% increase in visitors, reaching 1,200 monthly users.
The redesigned site was easier to navigate, with simplified user flows and a more intuitive layout. This transformed the website from a static directory into an extension of the radio station — a place to discover shows, get updates, and engage with content.
The new guide page became a valuable resource for show hosts, helping them manage their shows more efficiently. I received appreciation from programmers who used the guide to help them run their show.
The refreshed design gave the website a modern look that matched the radio station’s brand, making the site feel more lively and connected to the station. It also made navigation easier and more enjoyable for users.
