I designed Agenda App to help students manage their schoolwork in one place. Many planners don’t let students connect with teachers, classmates, or course content. This makes it hard to stay organized.
Agenda App solves this problem by combining everything students need into one app. My goal was to make it simple and easy to use so students could do better in school.
Problem
Students have to use too many apps to manage schoolwork. This can be confusing because:
Apps look different and don’t work the same way.
It’s hard to learn how to use so many tools.
Apps don’t work together.
It takes extra time to switch between apps.
There are different rules for saving and sharing data.
Goals
Make it simple
I wanted to create an app that feels clear and consistent. This means making sure it looks and works the same way in every part of the app.
Make it easy to use
I designed the app to be simple enough that students can quickly understand how it works. The goal was to make it intuitive so they don’t have to waste time figuring things out.
Put everything in one place
Switching between different apps can be annoying and confusing. My goal was to put all the important tools and tasks in one app, so students have everything they need in one spot.
Save time
Students are busy, so I worked to make tasks faster to complete. This meant reducing the number of steps it takes to get things done and making the process as smooth as possible.
Process
1. Research
I interviewed students and teachers to learn what they need in an app. Here’s what I found:
Students: Want a daily task list, fewer categories, a place to store files, and tools like focus timers to help them stay on track.
Teachers: Want fewer steps to complete tasks, flexible ways to communicate with students, and easier ways to share assignments.
Here is my conversation with my research participants:
Here were my insights from the research session:
Easy Task Management: Students want a simple way to see their daily tasks or add new ones. Teachers prefer fewer steps to get things done.
Tools for Productivity: Students need tools like focus timers and a place to organize course materials to stay on track.
Clear Communication: Students should have private ways to talk without involving teachers unless needed. Teachers need a clear inbox to keep messages organized.
Simple Assignment Features: Teachers want assignment submissions to be public and need links to show previews to make reviewing easier.
2. Ideation
I laid out designs in Figma to test different ideas for the app. These early sketches helped me decide what the app would look like and how it would work. View sketches.
3. Wireframing
I created detailed maps of how users would move through the app. These maps made sure the app was easy to use for both students and teachers. View wireframes.
4. Prototyping
I turned my sketches into a working model of the app. This let people test it and see how it would work in real life.
5. Testing
I asked users to try the app and give feedback. I used their ideas to make the app better.
Here is the feedback I received:
Faster and easier to use: Users finished tasks quickly with fewer steps, making the app simple and fast.
Good communication tools: Students and teachers liked how easy it was to send messages and stay in touch.
Ideas for improvement: Users suggested making some features even simpler and adding more visual hints to help them find their way.
Conclusion
Agenda App introduces significant improvements to school management for both teachers and students:
Consistent User Interface: The app provides a uniform look and feel across all features, ensuring simplicity and minimizing confusion. Clear layouts and a cohesive design enable students and teachers to navigate with ease and confidence.
Streamlined Workflows: Tasks require fewer steps, saving users time and effort. Features are thoughtfully organized to minimize unnecessary clicks, making processes more efficient.
All-in-One Solution: Students no longer need to juggle multiple apps. Agenda App integrates everything they need, including task management and communication with teachers, into a single, seamless platform, offering a complete solution for schoolwork.
What I would do next...
Engage with more students and teachers to gather deeper insights and diverse perspectives.
Compare the app with other planners to evaluate its strengths and areas for improvement.
Document all notes and designs to serve as references for future projects.
Conduct additional testing with a broader group of users and incorporate their feedback to refine the app.
